This past Saturday, February 23rd, members from JETAA Prairies attended Winterfest. We had an JET information table full of goodies such as pamphlets, Japanese maps, and other related materials. About a hundred people stopped at our table.
We also tried to recreate the atmosphere of a typical Japanese classroom during our presentation about the JET Programme. JET alumni took on roles of the Japanese Teacher of English (or JTE), the Assistant Language Teacher (or ALT), and the student leader who leads the classroom during the greeting. About 25 people attended our presentation. Because of our informative presentation, the small audience asked the JET alumni a lot of questions.
We hope that those who we spoke to or who attended our presentation will apply for the JET Programme in the near future. We wish them luck. It was a fun, great day!
JETAA Prairies (Manitoba Saskatchewan) talking about ways to work and travel in Japan at AiKon July 27th, 2018, RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg .
This past weekend, JETAA Prairies attended AiKon from July 27th to July 31st, 2018 at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg. We not only had an information desk at AiKon but JETAA Prairies held a panel titled Exploring and Working in Japan. We discussed job opportunities in Japan which included the JET Programme, private English conversation schools (eikawas), and the holiday working visa. We also discussed how to travel in Japan (e.g. JR Rail Pass, wi-fi rental vs SIM card, accomodations) and held a Q & A with the audience.
Alumni being super genki for the panel and ready to share their collective wisdom about Japan.
As you would expect, there were people from all walks of life stopping by the JETAA Prairies information desk inquiring about Japan and the JET Programme.

Yes, Karafun has TV themes in its catalog. For some, we channelled our inner child.
The past Saturday night, we had our growing karaoke event. Twelve were present at our karaoke event including the new JET participants. Our karaoke program of choice is Karafun. Some members brought drinks and snacks. Karafun’s catalog even contained famous TV theme songs like from The Transformers, Beverley Hillbillies, and The Flinstones (but there was no Jetsons’ theme song).

Our next event will be at Ai-Kon which takes place from July 27th to the 29th at the RBC Convention Centre at 375 York Avenue in Winnipeg. We will have a table setup there and alumni will present information about working in Japan. If you are JET alumni and want to help out during Ai-Kon, let us know via the contact form!
